The following scenario is an illustration of how the strategy can
be applied to a real evaluation.
The
staffers of a college are training to mentor freshmen in science
courses. As mentors, they will learn how to:
- Coach the freshmen in scientific inquiry skills.
- Provide encouragement to freshmen to persevere in their courses.
- Build good working relationships with the instructors so that
they can serve as liaisons when necessary.
The mentors are trained in evening workshops. The training is
reinforced with materials posted on the college's Web site.
