Excerpt 1 [Macalester College]

The following evaluation of the Calculus Reform Workshops of Summer, 1993, was conducted at the request of the Advisory Panel of the Calculus Reform Workshop Project (National Science Foundation). This survey of workshop participants consisted of a written questionnaire followed by taped telephone interviews with a selected group of the participants.

Evaluation Purposes

The purpose of this evaluation is to determine how successful the workshops of 1993 were in changing the way people thought about the teaching and learning of calculus; and to determine if the workshops had had an effect on changing what actually happens in calculus courses taught by the participants and/or their colleagues.
