Student Survey

Instrument #1: Interest Questionnaire

Project: Robotics and GPS/GIS in 4-H
University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Funding Source: NSF: Innovative Technology Experience for Students and Teachers (ITEST)

Purpose: To collect data about the attitudes of students toward science, mathematics and technology, in particular robotics

Administered To: Youth aged 12-15 who participated in a 4-H project (informal learning environment) focused on robotics, GPS/GIS, and natural resource/precision agriculture concepts

Topics Covered:

  • Attitude towards science
  • Attitude towards mathematics
  • Attitude towards technology
  • Attitude towards learning robotics
  • Attitude towards GPS (Global Positioning Systems)
  • Attitude towards GIS (Geographical Imaging Systems)
  • Attitude towards Aerial Photography
  • Problem Solving

Format/Length: 50 Likert rating scales

4-H is interested in learning about your attitudes towards science, mathematics and technology. We particularly want to get your reaction to learning robotics, which involves the building and programming small robots. We also are interested in your attitudes about GPS (Global Positioning Systems) and GIS (Geographical Imaging Systems). GPS helps us record and use data to understand mapping concepts. GIS is a computer tool you can use to look at and overlay maps, analyze patterns, create your own maps, and study and make decisions about the environment.

Indicate how you like to work with each of the following technologies:

I am not interested in working with it at all.
It is OK to try.
I like it.
I want to work with it every day.
