Teacher Enhancement (ESIE)
Purpose: To evaluate the quality of teaching
strategies, teacher-student and peer interactions, and course
content for three electronic online science courses made available
through a teacher network. To determine the impact of these
courses on the teacher's students, teacher's telecommunication
skills, knowledge of science content, and teaching
activities.
Administered To: All individuals who participated
in the electronic courses offered by the National Teacher
Enhancement Network

- Background Characteristics & Activities (Student):
academic interests, prior coursework,
technology
- Course Evaluation: areas for program improvement,
assessment, content, effectiveness, endorsement,
instructor, objectives, organization, practical value,
rigor, satisfaction, student/teacher interaction
- Impact on Outcomes: awareness, collaboration,
teacher knowledge, teacher preparation, teacher
understanding, usage patterns
- Instructional Practices: classroom activities,
collaborative activities, methods, technology
- Self-Assessment (Teacher/Faculty): understanding
of instructional methods
- Background Characteristics & Activities
(Teacher/Faculty): current practice
- Demographics (Teacher/Faculty): age, ethnicity,
gender
Format/Length: 42
questions, 37 closed-
and 5 open-ended, plus 4 demographic questions. The closed-ended
items are grouped within 4 scales that ask teachers to rate
statements using a 4- to 7-point rating scale. The open-ended
questions require teachers to write short answers concerning
the electronic courses.
