Excerpt 1 [Mid-Atlantic Center for Mathematics Teaching and Learning]

Evaluation Purposes

Evaluation is an integral component of the operation of MAC-MTL. NCISE staff play a role in planning and coordinating the various formative and summative evaluation studies, but do not conduct extensive independent data collection or analysis. Evaluation tasks are carried out by project participants at all three sites, led by the Center faculty as part of their personal research agendas. NCISE staff are involved in the following activities:

  • assisting in identifying project activities whose operation and effects should be documented
  • assisting in designing data collection actions that will allow MAC-MTL to produce that evidence
  • assisting in collecting data when that collection must be done by someone outside the project
  • assisting in evaluating the appropriateness of the reports that faculty prepare on their evaluation activities

At our request, a faculty member from each university volunteered to facilitate data collection activities at their local site, which includes their local school-system partner. These people are listed in Table 1.
