Evaluation Plan for the Assembly and
Packaging of Microelectronic Devices Project
Evaluation of Short
Courses
The most important outcome from this series of short courses
will be the extent to which the participants are able to learn
useful material from the short course and to incorporate the
material that they have learnt into their curricula at their
home institutions. Evaluation of the effectiveness of this
project will be done by participants and also by an independent
evaluator.
All participants will be required to fill out an "exit
questionnaire."
This questionnaire, distributed at the end of each short course,
will specifically ask participants to provide feedback on
the strengths and weaknesses of the short course. They will
also be asked to compare it with other short courses that
they have attended, and to give concrete suggestions on how
the course can be improved, including improvements to instructional
materials, course contents, laboratory exercises, scheduling,
field trips, conference facilities, etc. In addition, they
will be asked to identify the type(s) of future assistance
that they would need to help them incorporate the short course
material into their own curricula.
Results from these evaluations will be tabulated and utilized
to improve subsequent short courses, and to prepare follow-up
services for the participants. The results will also be mailed
to all participants.
Another questionnaire will be formulated and mailed (electronically)
to the participants approximately one year after the short
course, namely, in early May so that they may respond before
the end of the academic year. Participants will be specifically
asked to assess if these short courses made a difference.
This questionnaire will seek to assess: (1) the extent to
which they have been able to incorporate short course materials
into their curricula, (2) barriers they have faced in attempting
to include new materials into their curricula, (3) areas in
which they were successful in including new material into
their curricula, (4) plans they have for incorporating the
short course material in the future, and (5) areas in which
they need assistance. If responses to the questionnaire are
not received within 30 days, then it will be followed up by
telephone and email to ensure that adequate responses are
received.
The participants will be surveyed a second time after two
years have elapsed. The questionnaire will be similar to that
described above.
In order to maintain objectivity of the evaluation process,
it is proposed that an "independent evaluator" also be used.
Dr. A., Professor, specializes in ergonomics and measurement
techniques and instruments. Dr. A will not be a direct participant
in this project, except to evaluate the effectiveness of the
project. He will design all survey and questionnaire instruments,
distribute them to participants, collect and analyze the data,
and present them to the Advisory Committee. In addition, he
will attend some of the sessions, on an unannounced basis,
so that he can evaluate the effectiveness of the course mechanics,
and will also conduct informal surveys by interviewing the
participants. Dr. A will operate independently of the PI and
Co-PI, and will report his findings directly to the Advisory
Committee.
