Instrument 4: PriMath II Evaluation

Funding Source: NSF: Teacher Enhancement (ESIE)

Purpose: To evaluate satisfaction with and impact of the sessions that comprise the PriMath II program

Administered To: These surveys were administered to teacher leaders and administrators who participated in the program to foster mathematics talent in K-4 students. Survey recipients participated in 4-week summer institutes for each of 4 years, a number of school-year seminars, and several school-year visits by the program director.

Topics Covered:

  • Attitudes & Beliefs (Teacher/Faculty): professional development opportunities
  • Facilities: classroom
  • Impact on Outcomes: confidence, teacher interest, teacher knowledge, understanding
  • Impact Variables: professional development activities
  • Instructional Preferences: student characteristics
  • Self-Assessment (Teacher/Faculty): engagement, implementation activities
  • Workshop Evaluation: activities, areas for program improvement, collaboration, endorsement, exemplary areas, instructor, organization

Format/Length: 35 questions total. Each instrument has a combination of closed- and open-ended items. The General Evaluation has 10 closed- and 4 open-ended items; Gifted Education has 4 closed- and 3 open-ended items; Number and Numeration has 4 closed- and 3 open-ended items; and Leadership has 4 closed- and 3 open-ended items. All closed-ended items are 5-point Likert scales ranging from "strongly disagree" to "strongly agree." The open-ended items require short written responses.
