Program Description and Objectives

The Advanced Materials Science and Technology Workshop is designed to introduced and/or expand Florida teachers' knowledge of materials science concepts and applications. An important goal of these workshops is to elicit interest and excitement in the field among the teachers in a manner that will enable them to use their experience in their classrooms. The workshops included an introduction to the fundamentals of materials Science and Engineering as well as presentations in each of the content areas: i.e., ceramics, metals, polymers, and electronic materials. These sessions were followed by a series of curriculum development activities. In order to monitor the success of the workshops, evaluation instruments were administered for each of the content areas as well as at the end of each week's activities.
