Sufficient instrument triangulation will be achieved if the evaluator uses a single pre- and post-course assessment of all students in the four virtual biology classes, but designs it to include two different assessment techniques that measure depth and breadth of understanding on the same learning constructs. The measurement of breadth can be obtained by including a wide range of selected-response items or short-answer, constructed-response items. The measurement of depth can be obtained by including longer constructed-response items that require deep thinking and the completion of multiple steps.
